2046!  I’m not really keen on the numbers, partly because I understand that they clash with the ones issued by ERA, and I would have liked to have seen the numbers starting after 1148, where the old series ended, but apparently the new number series is intended to prevent owners of 1960s GT40s feeling too uncomfortable about these very high quality new ones.  Also, I am not enamoured of the names being used: “Superformance” and “HiTech” (the latter from the manufacturer’s name) don’t, in my view, do justice to this excellent car.  Personally, I would have labelled them as “MkVI”, but that could well have led to a head-to-head with Ford, who own that name.  So how about MkIC and MkIIC?

I’m not going to use this space to give you a detailed specification of the new GT40s; if that’s what you want, then please follow the links to the manufacturer’s and importer’s sites where you can find all that you would want to know about the nuts and bolts.  The thing I most wanted to know, once I had seen one of these delectable machines, was “How
much?”.  The answer, at the time of writing, is: £99,875, complete, Ford V8 and RBT (ZF) ‘box fitted, on the road, with all the certification and paperwork you need to drive one away.  Such a bargain price is only possible thanks to these cars being manufactured in South Africa, where labour costs are somewhat lower than in the USA and Europe.

Do they go as well as they look?  Tiff Needell thought so, when he tested one in South Africa.  Once he’d got the suspension sorted the grin never left his face.  Bob Bondurant had a whale of a time testing one, too, and as for Alan Mann - well, he’s bought one, so make what you want of that!

If you’re as impressed as I am, and you have £100k to spare, then contact either Rod Leach or Nigel Hulme, on 01992 500007, or click on their weblink for more information.

Oh, and please tell them I sent you - I could use some commission for when I buy one!
